IDEOPOLIS II: FINAL REPORT

The Work Foundation (chief executive Will Hutton) published its Ideopolis II report this week.

Chris Popplewell, Head of Economic Development at Norwich City Council writes: “Ideopolis has been a two year national programme supported by the City of Norwich Partnership, with funding coming from Norwich City Council, the University of East Anglia, and Norwich Union. Yesterday’s report was a synthesis of this research.

“Norwich has increased its GVA substantially, especially when compared with other cities that face similar transport challenges. (Those cities that have shown the strongest growth have all grown from a lower starting point). The report concludes that Norwich is ‘Enterprise Ready’ (see page 35 of the report), with diverse assets that include a thriving creative industries sector, health and life sciences, and financial services.

“The Greater Norwich Development Partnership (GNDP) and Shaping Norfolk’s Future are working together to develop a Knowledge Economy strategy that integrates the Norwich Research Park vision, and are part funding research into this.”

A further report by the Work Foundation that looks at the role of higher education in the knowledge economy, using Norwich as a case study, is due to be published this autumn.
